| 1. |
Using a 12mm socket remove the
2 bolts holding the ISC/BOV pipe in front of the 3000 pipe. |
| 2. |
With a 10mm socket remove the
5 bolts holding the ignition coil pack cover. |
| 3. |
Remove the oil cap then carefully
pull the ignition coil pack cover off and replace the oil
cap. |
| 4. |
Start the engine and make sure
it is warm. |
| 5. |
Jumper the E1 and TE1 terminals
in the diagnostic block. |
| 6. |
Now
the "check engine" light should be blinking on
the dash. If it is blinking fast that is good, if it is
not blinking at all check your jumpered connection, if it
is blinking slowly you have error
codes stored. You can still set your timing no problem
but you should write them down and see why they are happening. |
| 4. |
Connect the spark sensor lead
from the timing light over the #1 ignition wire being carefully
not to pull too hard on it. |
| 5. |
Hook the ground lead of the
timing light to the battery. |
| 6. |
Hook the positive lead of the
timing light to the battery. |
| 7. |
 Now
with the engine idling at 650 RPM, and nice and warm,
point the timing light at the crank shaft pulley and read
the current timing mark. 10° BTDC is the stock setting,
but some people run higher up to 14° BTDC. If you
are reading this because you don't know how to set your
timing I would leave it at 10° BTDC.
|
| 8. |
If your timing needs adjustment
loosen the retaining bolt holding the CPS (12mm) to the
block just enough so you can rotate it then move it until
the timing is at 10° BTDC. Tighten the bolt and check
the timing it still at 10° BTDC. |
| 9. |
Remove the timing light and
jumper wire. |
| 10. |
Remove the oil cap, replace
the ignition coil pack cover and tighten the 5 10mm bolts,
replace the oil cap. |
| 11. |
Replace the 2 12mm bolts for
the ISC/BOV pipe. |
